QUEBEC GAMES

Through the various disciplines involved, including basketball, the finals of the Jeux du Québec are aimed at introducing young people to sport, recreation, competition and high performance. The Jeux du Québec program promotes the practice of sports among young people and accompanies them on their journey towards excellence.

The finals of the Jeux du Québec are an annual provincial competition that brings together the best minor athletes from all regions of Quebec. The Basketball Finals are held in the summer in even years.

In basketball, the first level of Basketball Quebec's Program of Excellence is the Quebec Espoirs. The regional Espoirs teams are a very broad base serving as a level of detection and identification of athletic talent. Those teams are for athletes 14 years old and under. The training camp is followed by participation in a few competitions, including the Quebec Basketball Summer Festival, and the regional teams end their season by competing in the finals of the Quebec Games.

HISTORY

It was in the late 1960s that, in the minds of the main sports officials, the possibility of creating an event in Quebec similar to the Canada Games, to be called the Quebec Games, took shape. The success of the first edition in August 1970 surpassed the most optimistic predictions: more than 100,000 participants throughout Quebec experienced competitions that undeniably gave them a taste for sport. It was from this enthusiasm that the idea was born to hold a provincial event as well, bringing together all the regions in a host city. In August 1971, this idea became a reality as Rivière-du-Loup hosted the first Finale des Jeux du Québec.

Since the creation of the Jeux du Québec in 1970, more than thirty venues have hosted the Finale des Jeux du Québec.
